Lifting up the psycho in our “psycho-physical" re-education system with Tom Truss
A goal of this workshop is to help teachers feel more comfortable with, and deepen their practice of the “psycho” in the Alexander Technique. In this workshop Tom Truss aims to do that by introducing the concepts of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and by drawing parallels between it and the AT. Tom has recently been certified as a Level 1 practitioner of IFS, which is a therapeutic approach to finding balance and harmony within the Self. IFS asserts that we are a system that is made up of a true Self, and multiple parts, and that as we grow and develop a complex internal system forms that moves us through life - helping and sometimes hurting us. Because our body/system/self is so rich and complex, in Alexander we say “think forward and up” and our toes relax and greater ease occurs, and in IFS, when a part receives attention and healing, the entire system can change rapidly, and greater harmony and balance can be achieved.
